| Case Study: Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority
Community Participation Program for San Fernando Valley East-West Transit Corridor
Consensus Planning Group designed and managed the public participation program for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authoritys San Fernando Valley East-West Transit Corridor MIS/EIS/SEIR. The firm brought a particular expertise to the project, combining our experience managing public involvement programs for large-scale transportation projects with our detailed understanding of the issues and players of the San Fernando Valley. Consensus Planning Groups community participation program educated the public on the complexity of the study, involved the public in the evaluation of alternatives, and identified community and political concerns, while meeting the public participation requirements of the CEQA and NEPA processes.
The study examined alternative rail and bus route alignments between North Hollywood and Warner Center. Consensus Planning Group was responsible for communicating the scope of the study to the public and collecting comments through briefings, meetings, workshops, hearings and a telephone hotline. Key elected officials were briefed on the project, and their views were incorporated into an integrated community relations strategy. Meetings were held with hundreds of diverse stakeholders across the San Fernando Valley, including businesses, community organizations, chambers of commerce and homeowners associations.
The information on community views collected by Consensus Planning Group was a critical factor in the MTA Board's decision on which alternative to adopt.
